CareerBeam, Passport Assignment #3

CareerBeam Assignment 1: Self-Assessment I

Purpose:

Self-assessment exercises can help you identify key characteristics about yourself.  In Part I, you will assess your career vision, values, temperament.  This type of self-understanding will help you make fulfilling career choices and help you effectively communicate your worth to employers during the job search process. CareerBeam combines all of your assessment results into your own customized internal Career Profile.

Instructions:

1) Login to CareerBeam by going to the homepage for the Career Development Center at:

http://www.loyno.edu/careerservices

2) Click on the CareerBeam logo toward the bottom of the homepage and register with CareerBeam.  You will be required to enter your name and email address.  You must use your loyno email address.

3) Verify your registration.  After entering your name and email address you will get the following screen:

 

Registration Data
You entered the following information:

Name: Your Name

Your Email: yourname@loyno.edu
You said No to receiving CareerBeam Emails.
You said Yes to receiving the CareerBeam Newsletter.

Congratulations you have successfully completed registration.

Your User Name and Password will be sent to your email address.

4) Go to your loyno email to retrieve your CareerBeam Name and Password.  NOTE:  If you do not receive your login information within 24 hours, please check your junk/spam email folders to ensure it was not filtered

 

5) Go back to the homepage for the Career Development Center, click on the CareerBeam logo, login to CareerBeam.

6) Complete the two self-assessments listed below.  These two assessments are the first two linkes listed on the left margin of the screen under the title “Be Clear”.

 

(1)   VISION -- A vision statement paints a picture of your ideal future and will help you develop and accomplish your career goals.

 

(2)   VALUES -- Understanding your values as they relate to career decision-making is the single most important indicator in achieving a high degree of career satisfaction.

 7) Review the results after each assessment.

 8) Post a blog titled “CareerBeam Values and Vision” that responds to the following questions and inquiries. DUE:  Thursday 9.25.08.

Ö        What is your vision of your ideal future?

Ö        What are the benefits of writing a vision statement?

Ö        What are the challenges of writing a vision statement?

Ö        Which of your values are most important to you?

Ö        How do you express/display your values on a daily basis?

Ö        Find an organization (and link to it) that expresses a close match between your vision/values and the organization’s vision/values.  Quote the organization’s vision/mission/values.  Describe what it would be like to work for an organization with these vision/values.

Ö        Post a picture that exemplifies your vision/values?
